Description of Impact

Clients were unable to log into Office 365 programs. This intermittently affected both web and desktop apps, as well as mobile.

Incident Description and Resolution

The problem affected other groups besides BU. Microsoft put traffic workarounds in place to alleviate the issue.

The cause of this incident is still under investigation by Microsoft.

Users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services.

Current Status

Clients who were previously logged in may still be able to use O365 apps.

“Users would be unable to access Outlook.com, Microsoft Teams including Teams Live Events, and Office.com. Additionally, Power Platform and Dynamics365 properties are affected by this incident. Existing customer sessions are not impacted and any user who is logged in to an existing session would be able to continue their sessions. Current status: We’ve identified that reverting the recent change did not alleviate impact to Microsoft services as expected. We’re working to explore additional options for mitigation.”

Description of Impact

The web portal of Office 365 is down. Teams is also down.

Current Status

Down detector is reporting a spiking number of cases (https://downdetector.com/status/office-365/). Microsoft’s status page has acknowledged this problem (https://status.office365.com/).

Additional Information

Clients who are currently logged into Outlook or Teams may be able to continue to use them. Logging in a new session from https://www.bu.edu/webmail is when clients receive the error. The desktop version of Outlook is working for some people and could possibly be used as a workaround, although others say the desktop app is not working and repeatedly asking for credentials.
